Learning Opportunities

Overview
  • A WFPB lifestyle aims to maximize consumption of nutrient dense plant foods while minimizing process foods, oils, and animal foods (including dairy products and eggs). It encourages lots of vegetables (cooked or raw), fruits, beans, peas, lentils, soybeans, seeds and nuts (in small amounts) and is generally low in fat.
  • Research shows that plant-based diets are cost-effective, low risk intervention that may lower blood pressure, HbA1C, and cholesterol levels as well as increase Weight loss and reverse many chronic diseases (diabetes II, high blood pressure, heart disease, certain cancers and autoimmune diseases) as well as reduce the number of medications needed to treat chronic diseases and lower heart disease mortality rates.

All I can say is that because Jeanne has a background in chemistry and is also an educator, she brings a depth and clarity in her presentation you won't find anywhere else.  Besides being friendly, informative, and kind, she herself has been on a healing journey and speaks from personal experience. She takes whatever the time needed to fully address questions; she isn't in this to be flashy or anything, she is in it because she genuinely cares. I am looking forward to future classes, hopefully in person soon!

Learning to Read Nutritional Labels:
Pulling Back the Curtains!

How is it possible that something that is 100% fat...
...is labeled as “fat free”? Hmmm. Think about that.
  • Consumers are more health-conscious than ever, so some food manufacturers use misleading tricks to convince people to buy highly processed and unhealthy products. Front labels try to lure you into purchasing products by making health claims.
  • Cut through the smoke and mirrors and learn how the food industry is hiding things in plain sight.
  • In this eye-opening lecture as well as “hands on activities”, learn how to understand and use the Nutrition Facts label.
  • It can help you make healthier eating choices and identify nutrient-dense foods for a healthy diet.

Forks Over Knives -
  • Sunday, March 5th, 2023 @ 12:30 - 3:30 pm in S. Yarmouth

Forks Over Knives
Features leading experts in health such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, co-author of the China Study and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, author of "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" among many other doctors and researchers. Campbell and Esselstyn both grew up on farms, believing that animal protein was healthy and necessary but soon changed their beliefs in the face of mounting scientific data.

We get a closer look at the careers of Campbell, Esselstyn, McDougall and co and how they all, independently from each other, came to the same conclusion: A whole food plant-based diet is the answer to obesity and can heal or even reverse the most common degenerative diseases of our society.

Along with the scientific explanations, Forks Over Knives also presents a couple of real-life case studies of people who not only lost great amounts of weight but also improved pretty much all areas of their health.

Game Changers
Sunday, March 19⋅12:30 – 3:30pm - S. Yarmouth

A UFC fighter's world is turned upside down when he discovers an elite group of world-renowned athletes and scientists who prove that everything he had been taught about protein was a lie.

Produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan
Documents the explosive rise of plant-based eating in professional sports, mixing real-time, groundbreaking science with cinematic stories of struggle and triumph. The film features some of the strongest, fastest and toughest athletes on the planet - and it's backed by them too - with additional EPs including Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic, and nine-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul.

Follows the story of James Wilks - elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter - as he travels the world on a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength. Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, and visionary scientists. Wilks' journey exposes outdated myths about food that not only affect human performance, but the health of the entire global population.

Hear from Ann Marie...
I attended Jeanne’s class. It was eye opening! First, her recipes were great and easy and I can’t wait to try them. But most of all I had been researching on my own non toxic pots and pans and only came up with stainless steel, where most times you have to use oil. But going to this class, Jeanne introduced us all to other options!!! They are non stick and non toxic!!! I couldn’t be happier. Not many people look at the toxic side to pans,  your skin, the environment, but Jeanne does.
It doesn’t get much better than that. I am looking forward to her next class. Ann Marie C.

I just attended Jeanne's class called "Foods That Shield You From Toxic Metals." Foods that Protect from Harmful Fats and Cholesterol: WF Plant Base Series
Blue zones are places where people enjoy good health as well as healthy brain functions well into old age. In all these places, people's food choices have one thing in common: they emphasize food from plant sources. The biggest source of saturated fat in the American diet is from dairy and meat products. Combining the saturated fat with metals aggravates the production of beta-amyloid in your brain cells. Zinc causes the beta-amyloid to come together and copper and iron make free radicals that destroy your brain cells.
